Welcome to the 10K Eco-Run Along the Coast of Folly Beach!

Run for the Coast will be on September 28th at 8:00am and will benefit the Charleston Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation®

In 2012, Run for the Coast was created to give some love back to Folly Beach, and bring our community together for a fun, active event. WIth 115 participants, 17 sponsors, and help from all across Charleston, our inaugural year was a huge success! We look forward to putting on another successful 10K on Folly Beach, and invite you to participate in Run for the Coast 2013!

Our Philosophy

Whether you’re a runner, surfer, or just enjoy soaking up the sun, we invite you to participate in the inaugural 10K Eco-Run along the coast of Folly Beach.

Proceeds will benefit the Charleston Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation – a global organization who strives to protect the very coasts that you love!

To promote healthy and environmentally friendly recreation in Charleston.

Run for the Coast was founded on the idea that we need to enjoy all outdoor and recreational areas with a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship. This means reducing our impact on the areas where we love to surf, climb, run, kayak, hike, or simply take in the view. It is up to us and future generations to make sure everyone can continue to enjoy these amazing places. Run for the Coast will be held right along the beautiful coast of Folly Beach, and will strive to be as Green and low-impact as possible. Proceeds will benefit the Charleston Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.

I moved to Charleston, SC 6 years ago from Doylestown, PA. I love the great outdoors and enjoy rock climbing, kayaking, running, and any activity that will get me outside. This is what inspired me to create Run for the Coast - I believe it's important that we lead a healthy, active lifestyle and take full advantage of the adventures that await us outside in the most responsible way possible. This is my way of giving back to one of the beautiful places I've enjoyed so much.

I was born and raised in Charleston, SC. Growing up, Folly Beach was always my favorite beach, and still is. I'm excited to be part of Run for the Coast to help show the beauty of Folly Beach. My goal for this race is to bring awareness to all of Charleston for the need to take care of our island.

The Event

This event starts ON THE BEACH in front of the Tides Hotel in Folly Beach, SC

This race will strive to be as green and low-impact as possible. We encourage all associates, affiliates, sponsors, and participants of Run for the Coast to make an effort to help us achieve this goal!

This race will strive to be as green and low-impact as possible. We encourage all associates, affiliates, sponsors, and participants of Run for the Coast to make an effort to help us achieve this goal! Some of the efforts will include:

Volunteers

We will need all the help we can get to make this race as successful as possible. Areas to help will include registration and distribution of race packets, event set-up and break-down, guiding participants along the race-course, water and food stations, beach clean-up, and monitor the finish and start line.

Race Day Schedule

6:30am - LATE packet pick up - Please have your tickets or confirmation number/ID ready!
8am - 10K eco-run begins on the beach in front of Tides
9:30am-10am - Awards Ceremony
10am-12pm - After party at Blu Restaurant
SPECIAL NOTE: T-shirts are NOT guaranteed on race day. If supplies run out, we will mail you a t-shirt after the race.

Event will be capped off at 300 participants.
Sponsorship cut-off date is August 15, 2013. 

Awards

Awards ceremony will be held immediately after race. Top 3 Male and Female winners in each age division will receive a Run for the Coast 10K Race Medal. Additional final prizes to be determined.

Age group awards for top 3 Male and Female winners in each age division: 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+

1st place Male: Run for the Coast race medal. 4 person Kayak or SUP Tour with Charleston Outdoor Adventures. $125 gift card to Ocean Surf Shop.

1st place Female: Run for the Coast race medal. 4 person Kayak or SUP Tour with Charleston Outdoor Adventures. $125 gift card to Ocean Surf Shop.

2nd place Male: Run for the Coast race medal. 4 person Kayak or SUP Rental with Charleston Outdoor Adventures. A 24 hour surfboard rental from McKevlins Surf Shop.

2nd place Female: Run for the Coast race medal. 4 person Kayak or SUP Rental with Charleston OUtdoor Adventures. A 24 hour surfboard rental from McKevlins Surf Shop.

Frequenly Asked Questions

Do I have to run in the 10K, or can I walk?

No, you do not have to run, you can walk the 10K.

Is the 10K run on the actual beach?

Yes, the 10K run is really on the beach - this is what makes it such a unique run on Folly! It will be during low tide, so the beach will be wide and the sand will be hard packed.

Will parking be provided?

No. However, parking is free on Folly Beach. Please arrive to the run early, and try to carpool or bike (safety first!) to help reduce your carbon footprint.

What if I miss online registration?

You can still register for the race during Packet Pick-Up at the Tides Folly Beach Hotel: Friday September 21, 5pm to 8pm, and Saturday September 22, 6:30am to 7:45am.

What if it rains on race-day?

The race will be held rain or shine, so let's hope for the best and we'll see you out there!

How much is registration?

- Early Registration - Ends on September 15 at midnight - $35.00
- Late Registration - September 15th to September 19 - $40.00
- Children's tickets (12 and under) - Ends on race-day at 7am - $15.00
